HVO Swiss has joined SPIN, reinforcing the network’s mission to advance pragmatic, technology-open solutions for climate protection and industrial transformation. The new membership highlights how Power-to-X approaches can connect circular economy strategies with renewable energy systems.

Turning Hard-to-Recycle Plastics into Valuable Resources

HVO Swiss develops and deploys pyrolysis technology that converts mixed and hard-to-recycle plastic waste into energy-rich oils and chemical feedstocks. By processing plastics in an oxygen-free environment, long polymer chains are broken down into molecules that can be reused as raw materials or upgraded into fuels. This pathway addresses a waste stream that is difficult to handle with conventional mechanical recycling.

Power-to-X Beyond Electricity

Power-to-X is often associated with converting renewable electricity into hydrogen or synthetic fuels. HVO Swiss’ approach shows how Power-to-X further enables circular carbon pathways: carbon already in the system is recovered from waste and transformed into usable energy carriers or industrial inputs. When combined with renewable electricity and green hydrogen, such pathways can support defossilized value chains across transport, chemicals and manufacturing.

A Pragmatic Contribution to Climate Goals

By joining SPIN, HVO Swiss becomes part of a collaborative platform that brings together industry, research and policy actors. SPIN does not develop projects itself but works to improve regulatory frameworks and boundary conditions, helping members scale solutions that are technically sound and economically viable. HVO Swiss’ technology adds an important perspective to discussions on technology neutrality, circularity and real-world implementation of Power-to-X.

Strengthening the Swiss Innovation Ecosystem

Switzerland’s energy and climate strategy relies on innovation, openness to different technologies and close cooperation between stakeholders. The participation of HVO Swiss in SPIN underlines the role of chemical recycling and waste-to-resource solutions as complementary elements within the broader Power-to-X landscape.
