The Swiss Power-to-X Collaborative Innovation Network (SPIN) is pleased to welcome LAEMMLE Chemicals AG as a new member. The Madetswil-based company, a specialist in lubricants, oils, and chemical-technical products with 150 employees, brings decades of Swiss manufacturing expertise and a clear commitment to circular, low-carbon chemistry to the network.

A Swiss specialist with a long history

Founded in 1949 as PANOLIN AG, the company continued its lubricants business under the new name LAEMMLE Chemicals AG after part of the original business was sold. The family-run enterprise in the Zürcher Oberland develops, produces, and distributes motor oils, hydraulic oils, industrial and specialty lubricants, as well as cleaning agents and other chemical-technical products. Under its ROXOR brand, LAEMMLE offers a broad portfolio for commercial vehicles, passenger cars, industry, and the maritime sector.

All products are formulated and manufactured in Switzerland, based on high-quality base oils and modern additives. The company is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, with additional certifications such as ABS for maritime applications.

Chemistry with responsibility

LAEMMLE positions itself under the principle of “chemistry with responsibility.” According to the company, production and shipping have been aligned to be CO₂-neutral, supported among other things by geothermal energy. Drums are reconditioned for reuse, and the company has been developing new products based on circular feedstocks — including lubricants formulated from reprocessed used oil — intended to substantially reduce CO₂ emissions and resource consumption.

The SPIN Perspective

LAEMMLE’s membership adds a valuable dimension to the SPIN ecosystem. Power-to-X is often discussed in terms of hydrogen, e-fuels, and synthetic gases — but the broader transition toward defossilised chemistry will also depend on specialty chemicals companies that already operate with circular and low-carbon principles. Lubricants and industrial fluids are an essential, often overlooked, part of the energy transition: they are required across mobility, manufacturing, and infrastructure, and their feedstock pathways matter.

A few honest caveats are worth naming. The terms “CO₂-neutral” and “climate-neutral” cover a wide range of methodologies, and the climate impact of any specific product depends on its full life-cycle assessment, the share of circular versus virgin feedstocks, and how residual emissions are addressed.

What LAEMMLE brings to SPIN is concrete: practical experience in producing chemical-technical products in Switzerland, familiarity with circular feedstock sourcing, and a network across mobility and industry segments that will be relevant as synthetic and bio-based feedstocks scale up.
