Every entry was checked against operator statements, official databases or trade press. Entries marked Biofuel are HEFA or waste-based plants shown for context — they are not Power-to-X in the strict sense.

Method and data basis
The map is a curated, representative cross-section, not an exhaustive register. Projects are classified by technology (colour) and by development status (marker): operational means the plant is producing; under construction means a final investment decision has been taken and building has started; planned and feasibility study cover pre-FID projects; paused and cancelled are kept visible so the picture stays honest.
Marker positions: Swiss entries are placed on the plant site itself (verified against operator addresses and the Swiss federal geoportal); entries marked municipality only have no published site yet. Zoom in to street level to see the exact location.
Each project record carries its own sources (operator press releases and project pages, IEA Hydrogen Projects Database, eFuel Alliance, government and trade press) and the date it was last checked. The dataset is reviewed every Monday; status changes, additions and removals are logged before publication.
About the Swiss Power-to-X Map
What the map shows
The map shows all 29 Power-to-X plants and projects in Switzerland that SPIN has verified: green hydrogen production at run-of-river power plants and waste-to-energy sites, power-to-gas and methanation demonstrators, e-methanol and e-SAF plants, and research platforms. It spans pioneers commissioned as early as 2015 and projects targeting start-up by 2030. Every entry is placed on the plant site itself (verified against operator addresses and the Swiss federal geoportal); entries marked municipality only have no published site yet.
The Swiss map draws on the same dataset as the Global Power-to-X Map, filtered to Switzerland, and is updated at the same time.
Technology — the marker colour:
- Green Hydrogen — electrolysis powered by hydropower or waste-to-energy electricity, mainly for heavy-duty mobility and industry.
- E-Fuels — power-to-gas and methanation plants producing synthetic methane, plus solar-fuel and Power-to-Liquid demonstrators.
- SAF — sustainable aviation fuel demonstration plants (e-methanol to e-kerosene).
- Methanol — green methanol synthesis projects.
Development status — the marker shape:
- Filled marker: Operational (17 projects)
- Ring with centre dot: Under construction — final investment decision taken and building under way (2)
- Hollow marker: Planned (2) or Feasibility study (4) — pre-FID
- Dashed marker: Paused (2) or Cancelled (2) — kept visible so the picture stays honest
Clicking a marker or a list entry opens the project record with operator, capacity, product, commissioning year, a short description, the latest news, the sources consulted and the date the entry was last checked. The search field filters by project, canton or site, operator, product, technology or status; the legend chips switch technologies and statuses on and off.
Data basis and sources
Every entry was verified against primary sources: operator press releases and project pages, the CGES/SPIN project tracker, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, cantonal and municipal publications and trade press. The sources for each project are listed in its record, together with a confidence rating.
The dataset is reviewed every Monday. Minor updates (new sources, capacity figures, dates) are applied directly; status changes, additions and removals are checked by the SPIN editorial team before publication. Current dataset: v2026.09.14, last verified 14 Sep 2026.
Scope and limitations
The map covers Power-to-X production and demonstration plants: electrolysers, methanation, e-methanol and e-fuel synthesis, including research platforms. It does not cover hydrogen filling stations without on-site production, fuel-cell vehicles or pure carbon-capture projects without a Power-to-X component.
