Winterthur, Zurich, August 27, 2024 – As published in a media release today, SPIN and the Swiss Green Economy Symposium (SGES) have joined forces to tackle the challenges associated with scaling up Power-to-X (PtX) production, focusing particularly on sustainable fuels. This collaboration aims to identify key barriers and develop actionable solutions through a series of dedicated workshops.

Unveiling the Barriers to Scaling Power-to-X Production
On August 29, 2024, as part of the Innovation Forum IF 15 (Sustainable Fuels) during the Swiss Green Economy Symposium, SPIN will lead a pivotal workshop under the guidance of Peter Metzinger, Co-Managing Director of SPIN. The primary goal of this workshop is to create a comprehensive list of obstacles that hinder the large-scale production of Power-to-X technologies. Following the workshop, these barriers will be meticulously analyzed and evaluated to form the foundation for subsequent problem-solving initiatives.
Power-to-X DAYS: Crafting Solutions for a Sustainable Future
A significant milestone in this ongoing process will be reached during the Power-to-X DAYS, scheduled for November 6-7, 2024. On the second day, known as SPIN DAY, a World Café session will be held in the afternoon, featuring multiple workshops. These workshops will focus on developing targeted solutions to the challenges identified in previous sessions, all aimed at facilitating the upscaling of Power-to-X production.
One of the key workshops, curated by SGES, will explore the opportunities and challenges of international collaboration, with a focus on Morocco. Leading Swiss research groups will also contribute their expertise, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive approach to overcoming the obstacles facing Power-to-X technologies.
A Strategic Collaboration for a Greener Future
The insights and solutions generated from these events will be jointly reviewed by SPIN and SGES. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in promoting Power-to-X technology in Switzerland, contributing to the broader goal of supporting a sustainable, green economy.
Power-to-X (PtX) refers to a range of technologies that convert surplus renewable energy—typically from electrical sources—into various synthetic energy carriers and raw materials. These converted products can be used for seasonal energy storage or to defossilize sectors such as mobility and the chemical industry.
