Toyota – in Switzerland a member of SPIN – has announced a major organizational restructuring to accelerate the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies. The company will consolidate its hydrogen-related projects under a new dedicated unit called the “Hydrogen Factory,” signaling a stronger focus on the commercial rollout of fuel cell technologies.
The new Hydrogen Factory will integrate all aspects of Toyota’s hydrogen business — from development and production to sales and customer support. According to the company, this move aims to enhance efficiency and responsiveness to rapidly changing market needs and to strengthen partnerships globally.
In addition to reinforcing its presence in passenger vehicles, Toyota also plans to expand the use of hydrogen in commercial vehicles, stationary power generation, and industrial applications. This approach reflects the company’s broader commitment to achieving carbon neutrality through a diversified technology portfolio, which includes battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell solutions, according to their own statement.
The restructuring will come into effect on July 1, 2025. Toyota President Koji Sato emphasized that the company remains dedicated to delivering “the right solution at the right time in the right place,” underscoring the need for regional flexibility and technology neutrality.
This strategic shift reinforces Toyota’s role as a key global player in the hydrogen space and aligns with international efforts to scale up hydrogen infrastructure and technologies.
